Deep, rich and beautifully structured, this is a classic expression of hillside Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, offering alluring aromas of blackberry, cassis and chocolate, along with hints of espresso, anise and fragrant herbs. On the palate, creamy oak and concentrated berry and black cherry flavors are underscored by velvety tannins and subtle notes of cola, clove and black licorice.

Looking at the two releases from Chappellet, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Signature is the larger production cuvee and sees 22 months in 50% new French oak. Its deep, inky color is followed by an incredibly pure bouquet of crème de cassis, hints of blue fruits, graphite, and cedar. With gorgeous minerality, full-bodied richness, building tannin and notable purity, it's an incredible wine, as well as a sensational value.

This is blended with a hearty 14% Petit Verdot and smaller additions of Merlot and Malbec. Together, they form a harmonious whole of soft, supple and densely packed flavor, characterized by red currant, earthy dried herb, plum and crayon that finishes in bold tannin and dark chocolate.

Bright red cherry, plum, rose petal and mint notes give the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Signature a very distinctive and, frankly surprising, amount of freshness. Vibrant, perfumed and nuanced, the Signature is flat-out delicious. The purity of the fruit here is striking, especially at this level. This mid-weight, gracious Cabernet remains one of the very best values in Napa Valley. The Signature saw 60% new oak, about half of it American, and the rest Hungarian and American.
